Course Description

In a real sense, all Christians are theologians. How we speak to God, how we speak about God, how we live out our belief in God in service to others – all these are theological statements about God, or more accurately what we believe about God. Our attitude and actions are outward expressions of our belief.

We study theology to equip ourselves to live our lives with God and share our faith with others in word and action. Studying theology is an exciting and humbling enterprise – after all, we are exploring the nature of the living God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Theological study should fill us with awe, wonder, reverence… and humility.

Are we confident, as Christians, in the Bible, the historic Creedal expressions of our Faith, and in our own abilities to apply these in our day and time? Some people express fear in thoughtful exploration of their faith, believing such study may undermine it – but the opposite is true. God uses such exploration and examination (through books, conversations, reflection, and writing) to build within us strong roots of faith.

The church and world need theologians – everyday Christians, who have courageously explored Christian theology… they shall have the tools needed to boldly proclaim the Gospel in word and deed.  This course will provide a brief (very brief) overview of the foundations in Christian Theology and the tools needed for ongoing exploration and examination of the Christian faith.
